Men with Pigs
Over years of what has sometimes proved to be tedious historical research in libraries and archives, I’ve periodically amused myself by collecting old photos that strike my fancy. Now that I’ve begun turning my research into fiction, I thought it might be fun to start making up stories inspired by some of my favorites—using no more than 50 words. Here’s my first attempt. Feel free to add your own if you’re so inclined.
Harlan and Ted weren’t like the other 4-Hers. While most of the young folk fawned over their long-lashed Holsteins and regal Thoroughbreds, the Foss brothers were partial to their Spots. Ted called his Harlan. Harlan called his Ted. No one knew why.
